Our goal is simple: give every Shepherd that comes through our program the chance to live a healthy, happy life in a loving home.

Our Mission
Saved by Grace Shepherd Rescue exists to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome German Shepherds and shepherd-type dogs in Western North Carolina. We are a foster-based organization, which means every dog in our care lives with a dedicated foster family rather than in a shelter or kennel.
How We Work
We operate entirely through a network of foster homes across Western North Carolina. Here's what that looks like in practice:
-
Intake
We pull Shepherds from local and regional shelters, accept owner surrenders, and take in strays. Every dog is evaluated for temperament and medical needs.
-
Veterinary Care
Each dog receives a full vet workup, vaccinations, spay/neuter, and any additional medical treatment they need.
-
Foster Placement
Dogs are placed in foster homes where they get individual attention, house training reinforcement, and socialization in a real-world environment.
-
Adoption Matching
We screen applicants carefully to find the right fit for each dog. This isn't about speed. It's about making matches that last.

Why Foster-Based Rescue?
A foster home gives us something a kennel can't: a clear picture of who each dog really is. Foster families observe how a dog behaves around kids, cats, other dogs, and everyday household situations. That information helps us make better adoption matches and set both the dog and the family up for success.
Fostering also reduces stress on the dogs. Shepherds are intelligent, high-energy dogs that don't do well sitting in a kennel. A home environment helps them decompress, show their true personality, and build confidence.
Who We Are
Saved by Grace Shepherd Rescue was founded in Western North Carolina by people who know and love this breed. Shepherds are loyal, smart, and incredibly versatile, but they're also one of the most commonly surrendered breeds. Many end up in shelters due to life changes, lack of training, or simply because their owners didn't understand the breed's needs.
We believe these dogs deserve better. And with the right support, every one of them can thrive in the right home.
Our Service Area
We are based in Western North Carolina and primarily serve the surrounding region. Our foster homes, adoption events, and volunteer network are all rooted in the WNC community.
If you're outside our immediate area but interested in adopting or supporting our mission, reach out. We're happy to talk.
